Dog Rescued After House Fire in Chicago Area
Her name is Bambi. She was living in Portage Park in the Chicago area in the fall of 2015. She’s four years old, and her family loves her. Bambi, in fact, loves her family, too, because this wonderful mix of terrier and Labrador went back into the fire in order to try and rescue a 69-year-old man. Unfortunately, while this brave pet was inside trying to find the old man, whom she obviously loved, the two of them got stuck in the fire. Other family members were able to escape. When firefighters arrived at the place past one in the morning, they carried out the elderly man. He was dying and would have been a goner without medical intervention, but the firefighters were able to revive him.
Also rescued from the fire was loyal little Bambi. She was gasping for air and unable to move properly. Firefighters said she looked like she was going limp. They put a small air mask over her face (pet air masks are actually a technology that is being pioneered for firefighters and first responders to handle this very issue). Bambi still had a heartbeat when the firefighters got to her, but she wasn’t doing well. It took some time giving her air, but eventually, she started moving her tail, and her heartbeat grew stronger. The poor little thing had smoke inhalation, probably. Firefighters put a blanket over her and she was take, at the instructions of the paramedics, to a local animal hospital. She was kept on oxygen until she was cleaned up and stabilized.
One interesting detail of the heroic rescue story is that the elderly man the dog went looking to find took refuge under his bed in an attempt to escape the smoke of the fire. The old man and the dog have a very close bond, according to family members. He feeds her and cares for her, takes her for walks, and spends lots of quality time with her in their home. In other words, this old man and Bambi are good friends. They are part of the same family. This is a great example of the bond that develops between family members and their pets. A pet just needs love and attention. Given that, any dog like Bambi will return that love and attention. And when the old man was endangered by the fire, Bambi went looking for him. When the two were rescued, they were found together, and thankfully, any complications from the fire were minimal. Bambi is reported to be alive and well and so are all the members of their family. While the fire they experienced was traumatic, their family lived, and that included their furry friend. We find stories like this to be very inspirational, and we think you will too, which is why we include them here.
Our hearts go out to the members of Bambi’s family. We’re very glad they’re okay, and we’re happy that their bond was so obviously demonstrated. We cheer the valiant efforts of the firefighters, too. Here at DoggyDoubleDate.com, we always applaud the work of anyone who takes care of our beloved family pets. The firefighters definitely came through for Bambi and, if our family was ever in such a situation, we hope they would be there for us, too. That’s one of the reasons we run a dog dating site. Pet dating helps us to put people like this in touch with each other. We love to bring about that bond. We are very happy to be able to facilitate it.
Stolen Norfolk Dog Reunited With Family
Another recent news story comes to us from Norfolk, where a family dog was stolen right out of a family’s car. It seems the police got a phone call from a woman whose daughter’s boyfriend had shown up at the house with a new dog. The problem was, the dog looked just like a dog that had been reported stolen in Norfolk. That dog, the one in question, had been taken from a car that was broken into. The anonymous report brought police to a home in Norfolk. The plot thickens, because as the police showed up, a man flagged them down and told them that he very much suspected the dog he had just gotten had been stolen. The police compared the dog in question to a photograph of the dog that had been reported stolen, and they immediately made the connection.
The poor little dog spent some time in an animal shelter while the police tried to contact the rightful owner. When that woman came to the shelter, her little dog recognized her and the reunion was very touching. The woman was also able to prove that she owned the dog, which stresses just how important is for you to keep your dog’s papers up to date. In a world where people steal dogs and do terrible things like this, it is always valuable to be able to prove your ownership of the animal. The bond between the two of you will obviously be palpable in such a case, but it’s always important to be able to back that up with actual paperwork. The woman in this story was very scared that her dog would end up in the wrong hands and even be used for terrible things like dog fighting, but that did not happen here. And you may not realize it, but stealing a dog out of a car is in some areas at least a felony, so it’s a serious crime.
We don’t know what the outcome was of this case from a legal perspective. We know the woman was reunited with her dog and that police went on to interrogate everyone involved. The obvious suspicion is that the man who flagged down police might have been doing so because he knew he’d been caught, but of course there is no way to prove that and it is speculation only. Let’s hope that the people involved in the dog theft were found and made to pay for their crime. Nobody should have to go through something like that, or worry that their dog has been stolen for use in a dogfighting ring or something terrible like that. We support the prosecution of dog thieves… and we are always happy to report the successful reunion of a dog with its rightful owner.
Runaway Dog, Hit By Car, Finally Comes Home
It’s every family’s terrible nightmare: Your beloved family pet is struck by a car. We’ve all been there and we’ve all experienced it. In many cases, these stories end in tragedy, with a beloved dog expiring and leaving a family behind. That’s what happened, or at least that was what was feared to have happened, to Arlene Ramirez’ dog, Dakota. Dakota was a brown Labrador retriever who had, among other family members at home, a fourteen year old girl who was very fond of her. That girl, Mary, steadfastly believed that Dakota was still alive, even though there was no trace of the dog after Dakota was struck by a car and ran away. Mary’s mother walked around the neighborhood with a bullhorn, shouting Dakota’s name, trying to find her. Among her terrible fears was that coyotes or other predators might have killed the injured Dakota, which would mean all of Mary’s steadfast hope in her dog’s well being was misplaced.
Filling the neighborhood with posters advertising their missing dog didn’t help. They tried turning to social media to spread the word about Dakota. They even turned to prayer. Mary’s mother was very worried about what had happened to Dakota, and she led groups of searchers out into the neighborhood to try and find the dog. But one day, something wonderful happened. The family got a phone call from a man who had seen one of the family’s missing dog posters. He told them he thought he might have seen Dakota. Several miles away, at a nearby ranch where avocados were grown, the man saw the little dog under a pile of leaves. She was hostile and scared, but the man stayed in close contact with animal control to see if might be possible to bring the dog in. An animal that has been hit by a car is frequently hostile and mistrustful, so it makes it that much harder to find a dog like that and reunite that dog with its family.
Finally, the family was able to bring the dog in by throwing one of their old shirts to the dog so she would smell the familiar scent. When Dakota finally came out of hiding, she had lost twenty pounds and was missing some fur. She had spent a month and a half away from the family, surviving in the outdoors without any regular food or attention. She suffered a lot from the separation and was shy and anxious when the family got her back, but we have no doubt that some tender loving care will get her back on track. What’s important is that she survived and that the family got her back. Her family isn’t even upset with the man who hit their dog, reasoning that he probably felt terrible about doing it and that it was out of his control anyway. Today, Dakota is back with her family and well on her way back to feeling better. These are the types of inspirational stories we love, because we love to see pets go back to being with the people who love them after they have been lost.
